Awards 2007The awards and grants are published in open calls for all suitable candidates. The Board of Directors nominates the award winners. Decisions are based on the assessment of the scientific advisory board of the European Forest Institute.
Ponsse-grant 2007Ponsse grant 2007 (16,000€) was awarded to Vadim Goltsev, Russia, for the PhD research on the ’Estimation of Potential Use of Energy Wood in the Leningrad Region of Russia’. The Ponsse-grant is awarded as a scholarship for such PhD or post-doctoral studies, which deal with the contribution of modern forest management technologies to sustainable and competitive forestry in Europe. The research work shall be conducted at the European Forest Institute. The donor of the Ponsse Funds is Ponsse Oyj. The Ponsse Group designs, manufactures, markets and services environmentally compatible and effective forest machines for the cut-to-length method of mechanised logging as well as wood harvesting-related information technology.
Tim Peck Young Scientist Award 2007Tim Peck Young Scientist Award 2007 (2,000€) was awarded to Dr. José Ramón González-Olabarria, Spain. He has worked at the Medforex project centre of the European Forest Institute and his research topic is ‘Analysis and integration of forest fire risk into forest management’. The Tim Peck Young Scientist award will be made to a young scientist who has made or is making a significant contribution to research on the field of forestry and forest industries. The funds for the award has been donated by Mr Tim Peck. He is native to Great Britain and has made an outstanding career within European forestry and forest science. Prior to his retirement he led the FAO/ECE Forestry Department in Geneva. Mr Tim Peck has been involved into the development of the European Forest Institute from the beginning and he has also been awarded with the Medal of the Order of the White Rose of Finland. |
